G2P-SOL and DivSeek - Roundtable for Crop Diversity in Breeding
On January the 8th, Dr Richard Finkers (WUR-DLO), Dr Glenn Bryan (JHI), Dr Roland Schafleitner (AVRDC) and Dr Dave Ellis (CIP) from the G2P-SOL Consortium were among the approximately 80 participants who took part to the DivSeek Roundtable and Partners Workshop in San Diego, USA.
The objective of the DivSeek initiative is to enable breeders and researchers to mobilise a vast range of plant genetic variation to accelerate the rate of crop improvement and to furnish food and agricultural products to the growing human population.
In particular, this workshop discussed the repurposing of tools to enable gene banks to use genomics data for conservation and to stimulate the use of crop diversity in breeding. This has a lot in common with the work carried out in the first year of the G2P-SOL project. Dave Ellis contributed to the discussion with a showcase titled: “The A-C-G-T’s in quality management of genebanks” while Richard Finkers was involved in the organisation of the Working Group : “FAIR Data”.
